Mine gas exposure

Eleven miners have been injured, one seriously, when they were exposed to toxic gases following a controlled explosion at an underground goldmine 20km east of the Victorian city of Bendigo yesterday.Rural Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said crews were called to the Perseverance Northgate mine at Fosterville about 4.40pm. “As a result (of the explosion) 11 miners suffered from inhalation of mine blast gases,” Mr Mullen said. It’s believed the gases included nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide.
