Tippens saves his best performance until last

SOUTH Australian sprinter Duncan Tippens grabbed one of Australia’s big three sprinting titles in what could be his last professional race of a 10-year career taking out the prestigious Bendigo Bank 2008 Burnie Gift at the Burnie Carnival yesterday. The 32 year-old Adelaide runner started off a mark of 5.25m and crossed the line ahead of Victorian Liam Shepherd (8m) and local Burnie Dockers footballer Ben Englund third (12m) to claim the first prize of $11,000.

He beat some quality sprinters in the final including backmarker and 2006 Stawell Gift winner Adrian Mott and 2001 Burnie Gift and 2007 Queanbeyan Gift winner Craig Brown.
