THE LAUNCESTON Philatelic Society has once again helped The Examiner empty Stocking Fund by contributing $400.The stamp collecting club, whose members have been donating to the charity for eight years, held an end-of-year auction to raise the money. One popular auction item was two trays of muffins that sold for $90.”Everybody was obliged to bid for the muffins,” said president Geoffrey Pilsbury.Other items sold included Tasmanian wine, antique coins and stamps, some selling for $45.Mr Pilsbury said that the club had always been keen to lend a hand at Christmas time.”We are pleased to help in the little way that we can,” he said.”It seems harder for people today and things are tough all round. You’ve only got to read the paper to see the problems in the world. This is the one time of the year that we can do something for someone else.”
