SYDNEY – Singer Jose Carreras will pay tribute to his old friend and fellow tenor, the late Luciano Pavarotti, by performing some of the Three Tenors’ favourite songs at the Sydney Opera House this week. Carreras will sing pieces from opera, pop and musical theatre as well as his own selection of Spanish and Italian love songs at two concerts tomorrow and Sunday.

Australian soprano Emma Matthews will join the Spanish singer on stage, and the concerts will be backed by a full symphony orchestra conducted by David Gimenez.

Speaking in Sydney yesterday, Carreras said he, Italian Pavarotti and fellow Spaniard Placido Domingo had become very close while working as the Three Tenors.
