THE grand final of the State men’s open fours bowls championship yesterday resulted in an easy victory to the North Launceston trio of Bradley and Brendon Peck, Jarrod Howard and Trevallyn’s David Minns when they easily accounted for the Longford four skipped by Mark Strochnetter. It was a reversal of last year’s result in Hobart when the Longford four won the title.

Strochnetter led 4-2 after three ends but it was all one-way traffic from then with Peck leading 12-4 after seven and 20-5 after 12.

They only played 18 of the 21 scheduled ends before Strochnetter conceded victory being 15 shots in arrears.

The winners were outstanding during the five-day championships and in their three finals game scored 76-34 to show that they were streets ahead of their opposition.

It was the third State title in three years for Howard but for Minns it completed a full set of championships during the last five years as in this period he has won the singles, pairs, triples and fours titles.

During the five days, Minns scored 12 straight wins as he qualified for the grand final of the pairs winning his semi-final by nine shots in the morning game.

Strochnetter and Chris Dudman had an easy win against clubmates Bruce Howard and Darryl Castles in the other semi-final winning by 17 shots without playing the last five ends.

Minns and Col Ward had a high- scoring game against Derwent City’s Paul Chamberlain and Peter Williams with only two single shot ends scored in the first 16 ends played.

Five shots on the 18th end put the result beyond doubt.

Due to the players having seven hours on the green in high humidity and 28-plus degree temperatures the tournament committee from the NTBA had no option but to postpone the grand final of the pairs until a later date.
