Train rides

The original Sheffield Railway Station will operate a special summer service until Friday, January 11. The steam train will run every half-hour between 11am-4pm daily. Cost is $5 for adults and $2 for children aged 5-16 years accompanied by an adult.

Yacht race: The inaugural Clive Peeters Launceston to Hobart yacht race leaves from Low Head today. Up to 30 boats are expected to compete in the 280 nautical mile race, which is a joint initiative of the Derwent Sailing Squadron and the Tamar Yacht Club. TasPorts Cup: The TasPorts Cup inshore yacht race will take place on the Tamar River, tomorrow, at 1pm, featuring Rudder Cup entrants and local competitors.

Cycling: Some of the world’s best sprint cyclists will ride today at the Launceston Silverdome and a match-race format has been arranged for them. The cyclists will be required to ride a qualifying time, with the top 12 riders going through to the round heats. Qualifying points for the Olympic Games will be on offer.

Road races: The Tasmanian Motorcycle Club road races will be held at Symmons Plains on Sunday from 10am- 4pm. More than 30 club members will compete. Entry is free to spectators.
